Rink 1, Ray Hemsley, Brian Drayson, John Boon & Chris Webley had a tough afternoon against
good opposition, only managing to get their noses in front once, on end 4 eventually losing
7 – 28
Rink 3, Harold Nutting, Richard Skelton, Clive Jeffrey & Ray Batsford were trailing for most of the
afternoon but stayed the course and managed a tight finish losing
13 – 15
Rink 4. Keith Jay, Steve Mead, Tim Jeffrey, Kevin Felts managed to get their noses in front
early on and were leading 9-6 on the eleventh end but with Falaise becoming better
acquainted with the rink, they overtook and came out winners
15 – 18
Rink 5, Keith Barber, Brian Isom, Terry Adams & Trevor Monk had a cracking match that was
fairly even throughout the afternoon and were level pegging on the 15 th end but a one and a
five on the last two ends secured our only victory of the day.
21 – 15
Rink 6, Steve Hattersley, Bill Duff, Tony Betteridge, Denis Parkinson enjoyed a very good
afternoon of bowls with a good standard of bowling the entire afternoon. Falaise managed a
fortuitous last end with a wide wood getting a wick, which gave them a four and a victory of
14 – 18
Falaise agreed a draw would have been a fair result.
Egerton Park 70 – 94 Falaise

Sussex Ladies League home versus Falaise
all on the last end !
Thank you to Captain of the day Jo Hearsum & her team.
Sadly not all the Egerton ladies who were selected were able to play. Just a few days before the game Falaise informed us that they could only find players for 4 rinks so one rink score of 2 points was conceded. This was a repeat of our away game with Falaise & it gave our opposition an opportunity to concentrate their best players into 4 rinks.
As we had won our away game overall 86 to 51 & won on all 4 rinks there was an air of confidence BUT this was to be a more challenging match.
*RINK 1 Trish Webley, Shirley Hudson, Ali Evans, Maggie Carpenter
RINK 2 Celia Morgan, Joan Pullen, Isabelle Hart, Sheila Smith
RINK 3 Rosamund Wood, Chris Trendle, Christine Waghorne, Ann Pole
RINK 4 Christine Stirling, Sue Cooper, Jo Hearsum, Sheila Wright
At 9 ends overall it was 35:29 & 2 rinks each
rinks 1 & 4 were well ahead 13:2 & 13:6
rinks 2 & 3 were battling 5:14 & 4:7
Rink 2 finished first gaining 3 on their last end to pull up to 15:20 from being 9 down at tea.
Rink 3 were very unlucky on their last end having been 3 up to go one down ending 11:18
With the score now 59:60 & our 2 strongest rinks yet to finish hopes of an overall win for Egerton were still high. Falaise saw the finishing post & raised their game on rink 1 picking up a crucial last end 4.
Rink 1 finished 19:13 our *top rink & Rink 4 19:14
Final score 64 : 65
2 rinks to Egerton – 4 points & 2 points for the rink Falaise conceded without play
2 rinks to Falaise – 4 points & 2 points for the overall win
6 points to each team
Good luck to Egerton in their next game at home 19 February against Denton Island

2026 Cliff Todd – Dengate Trophy
Thank you to Lily & Terry especially for coping with last minute changes
Thanks to players who came in to make up the teams
especially those who came in at short notice when players withdrew due to illness
Thank you to Kate, Emma & all of the catering team for excellent refreshments
It is wonderful to see our club full. This popular fixture is an excellent opportunity to compete with our friends. There was plenty of banter & good natured rivalry!
It is also an opportunity to get to know other club members. Well done to those who were encouraged to play in this match for the first time, especially to Nigel Hearsey who was a winner on his debut.
The start for Terry was akin to herding cats. Our most senior player, Ray Hemsley aided by umpire Peter Copper was so keen to start the jack rolled before the whistle & was attempted to be concealed behind Peter’s feet ! This caused much laughter & set the tone for the weekend.
Yes there is a lovely silver trophy but more importantly we were there to have fun.
Each day we had 2 games of triples of 6 ends before lunch & 2 after. There is a point for each end won & 2 points for a win (8 points a game). This format works well in that it is not just down to number of games won & gives a more unpredictable exciting finish.
At the end of Saturday the leaders by 2 points were
Christine Stirling, Sue Cooper & Tim Jeffery – but there were 5 teams within 6 points
At lunch Sunday after 6 games – 3 teams were tied on 30 points & another 3 within 3 points
Sunday afternoon was great fun for those calculated to be “out of the running”
They had enjoyed their ample portion full roast dinners !
It was tense for those at the top. Tim’s team were to play on the final game 2nd placed
Nigel Hearsey, Anne Grant & Kevin Felts
Was the winner to come from this rink or if they held each other to a draw could an “outsider” gain all 8 points on another rink & eclipse them both?
FINAL SCORES
Gold medal & cup Nigel Hearsey, Anne Grant & Kevin Felts 41 points
Silver medal Christine Stirling, Sue Cooper & Tim Jeffery 40 points
Third & no award ! Sheila McCubbin, Ken Brook & John Elliot 40 points lower shot difference

2nd round Vivienne Trophy (National) versus versus Wealden
The format of this knockout National competition is that two triples of ladies plays at home at the same time as another 2 teams of three plays on the opposing sides green. The result depends solely upon the combined scores of the 4 triples for each team after 18 ends with the winner being the side with the highest number of shots.
In the 1st round Egerton had won against last year’s national finalists Eastbourne
so hopes for today were high
Thank you to home Umpire Peter Copper & thank you those who came out to support our team.
Our away teams were
Rosamund Wood, Shirley Hudson & skip Jo Hearsum
This team was unchanged from the 1st round. They fought hard against a strong team from the start but were unable to get ahead finishing after 18 ends 13 to 23 shots.
*Sandra Stacey, Joan Pullen & skip Captain Phyllis Stevens*
Sandra Stacey who had played at home in the first round played lead & Joan Pullen moved up with Phyllis staying as skip. They were in the lead 6 shots to 1 on the 5th end however Wealden nudged ahead 13 to 12 by the 15th. Phyllis’ ladies fought back not allowing Wealden another shot to be our *only victorious rink* winning 18 to 13 after 18 ends.
Our home teams were
Lesley Duff, Linda Ilsley & skip Ali Evans
Lesley Duff & Linda Ilsley came in to support Ali Evans who had held a top Eastbourne side to a draw in the 1st round. Again Ali had to face the toughest opposition in Sue Walter & her team.
Sue had been a skip for Wealden in yesterday’s League match on our green yesterday so was off to a flying start. Our ladies were 0 to 11 down after so many very close woods & not the best of luck when they scored to receive a great cheer. They kept on going but although the game was well matched from now on they could not make up the deficit. After 18 ends the score was 11 to Egerton & 18 to Wealden.
Isabelle “Tink” Hart, Jenny Edwards & skip Maggie Carpenter
This team was unchanged from the 1st round. In contrast to their 1st round game Maggie’s team had a strong start so much so the opposing skip Wendy Walker was heard to say “blimey” on the 1st end. Wendy’s reply to 3 woods all within a foot of the jack was a brilliant wood that took shot !
This was a well humoured & well matched game with Egerton well ahead for the first half & Wealden charging back in the second to win 14 to 9.
FINAL SCORE a LOSS for Egerton Park 51 to 68
Good luck to Wealden in the next round

The Girls Reply !
Thank you to Captain of the day Jo Hearsum
thank you to everyone who supported this game
thank you to our bar staff for efficient refreshment
& thank you to our catering team for an excellent match meal
Having lost our away game to Wealden in November on 4 of 5 rinks & by 59 to 111 shots we promised our friends a good match on our home green. Today with the icy weather we were particularly pleased to welcome an away team. Thank you Wealden for making the journey. Our matches with Wealden are always competitive but this is one of our friendliest fixtures. Sadly one of their ladies slipped on the ice as they were leaving to play. We wish her well. We therefore had a slightly delayed start & one rink now had 7 players.
Egerton got off to a tremendous start. At 9 ends when tea was taken “on the hoof” we were up on all rinks though the score was close on some. Our ladies did not let up the pressure forging ahead. We had lost on 4 rinks out of 5 away could we win on all 5 at home?
The last rink to finish was our closest who faced the talented & competitive Sue Walter & team. It was nail biting as we watched Sandra Stacey, Chris Trendle, Sue Cooper & Ann Pole triumph 22 to 16.
Well done to our top rink of
Christine Stirling, Mandy Cross, Tink Hart & Sheila Wright who won 27 to 5 shots
All 12 points in the Sussex league go to Egerton
the overall score was to 134 Egerton Park & to 58 Wealden
(without the deduction of 25% to one of Wealden’s rinks with 3 players)
Eye on the Bowl

Egerton knew they were in for a tough afternoon against Wealden on their own turf and so it proved to be. Although everyone enjoyed the afternoon, Egerton lost out 89 to 56.
Rink 1. Terry Adams, John Denton, Chris Talbot & Barry Jones, met tough
opposition at Wealden and found themselves 13 – 3 down after nine ends and only managing a further 4 points eventually losing 20 – 7.
Rink 2. Keith Barber, Peter Copper, Chris Webley and Denis Parkinson enjoyed a
good afternoon against an evenly matched team. At no time were there more than 3 points difference between the teams Egerton managed to get three points on the last end to draw the match 13 – 13.
Rink 3. Keith Jay, Kevin Hylands, John Boon and Kevin Felts were again our
shining light, with the only winning rink, earning us a point away from home. It was an evenly fought match up until the ninth end, after which Egerton pulled away with four and two twos, to run out winners 12 – 17.
Rink 4. Harold Nutting, Barry Dadswell, Bill Duff & Richard Tedder had a hard task competing against a good team from Wealden. Both teams were level five a piece at seven ends but Wealden took hold of home advantage and ran out winners 23 – 8.
Rink 5. Chris Browning, Steve Mead, Tim Jeffrey and Ray Batsford lost the first
four ends and found themselves seven behind after four ends. They fought back and were ten all at the thirteenth end but Wealden then surged ahead in the remaining ends to run out winners 21 – 11

Wealden v Egerton – Friendly
Egerton received a warm welcome at Wealden and a really enjoyable afternoon of bowls. Especially as we won as a Team, with the final result Egerton 103 to Wealden’s 87. Three teams won, with one team drawing, and a close result with one team just one point away from drawing.
Egertons top rink, John Robertson, Jan McIntosh and Tim Jeffery, well done!
Thank you to everyone that travelled up and of course to those driving, it’s greatly appreciated.
Also, thank you to Paul Hayes for being Captain of the day.
Once again, a great team effort and result.
Well done to all those who took part.

Men’s County League Match v Eastbourne Away
Eastbourne demonstrated their dominance very early on in this match and continued with it for the entire match running out worthy winners 112 to 58.
RINK 1
Harold Nutting, Steve Hattersley, Chris Webley & Denis Parkinson trailed from the beginning, not once managing to get their noses in front, eventually losing 19-9.
RINK 2
Keith Jay, John Boon, Andy Wallis & Kevin Felts, did at least win the first end and went 4 up but only managed to win 3 more ends and eventually lost 28-14.
RINK 3
Terry Adams, D. Reidy, Barry Jones & Richard Tedder had a tough afternoon against good bowling, losing out 23-7.
RINK 4
Chris Browning, Steve Mead, Chris Talbot & Ray Batsford, also faced a strong Eastbourne side, only managing to win 4 ends and at the end were 28-10 down.
RINK 5
Keith Barber, Steve Hutchinson, Phil Harrod & Trevor Monk, whilst losingthe first 5 ends, were our one shining light after winning most of the remaining ends, they came out winners 14 – 18.

Egerton Park versus Polegrove
Richard Tedder, our Captain of the day, welcomed Captain Peter Copper & his team.
Many of our “visitors” were of course Egerton players but a few were just supporting Polegrove & giving indoor bowling a try ! Word is that at least one of these now will now be joining us for the winter season. Thank you for a such a good turnout & to the organisers from both clubs for changing triples to rinks allowing all players from both clubs who signed up to play in this good friendly game.
At tea Egerton were well ahead with 62 to 33 shots. There were some excellent heads.
The game overall was close post tea Polegrove putting on 46 shots to Egerton’s 51.
However the invisible extra player “lady luck” was making all the difference on rink 2 where double wicks came off & opponents missed running the jack by millimetres several times !
Congratulations to the top rink for Egerton
Christine Stirling, Steve Mead, Tink Hart & Chris Webley winning 37 to 4
the overall score was 113 for Egerton to 79 for the Polegrove
Well done Egerton !

Vivienne Trophy (National) versus Eastbourne & District IBC
Our ladies play against 2024/5 National Finalists !
Our neighbours went all the way to the national final last year in the Vivienne trophy
The format of this knockout National competition is that one triple of ladies plays at home at the same time as another team of three plays on the opposing sides green. The result depends solely upon the combined scores of both triples for each team after 18 ends with the winner being the side with the highest number of shots.
Thank you to umpire Peter Copper who was much in demand today !
Thank you to those who came out to support our team.
They were rewarded with a cracking match played in good spirits.
Our away teams were
Rosamund Wood, Shirley Hudson & skip Jo Hearsum
Jo’s team got off to a cracking start & never looked back. Everyone played well & seemed to shock the opposition who on paper had been the hot favourites.
Joan Pullen, Gerry Andrews & skip Captain Phyllis Stevens
Phyllis’ team had a closer game being 5:6 down when the 5 ends score came through to Egerton.
Our home teams were
Sandra Stacey, Patty Stephenson & skip Ali Evans
Ali came in for Ann Pole who was unwell & filled the skips shoes with skill. Sandra & Patty were on form so they flew the flag at home being 9:2 up at 5 ends against a strong Eastbourne side skipped by Louise Kenward.
Isabelle “Tink” Hart, Jenny Edwards & skip Maggie Carpenter
After extremely strong trial ends Maggie had no woods in the head from her lead players
& was 0:11 down at 4 ends ! Luckily morale was kept up by the next door rink & the away score coming through.
When the 10 ends score came through from away the overall score was a nail biting 40 all !
Jo was up 12:6 & Phyllis down 7:11 but fighting overall away 19 : 17 ahead
Ali’s team who had started strongly had not scored since end 5 so were 9:11 down
& Maggie’s were on their 13th end having pulled up from 0:11 to 12:12 on their 12th !
There was then some magnificent play from our girls on all 4 triples as each knew it would be close but a win was in their sights.
Maggie’s rink had an exciting finish at home with Maggie drawing seemingly 2 impossible shots after a head scratching look at the head. They finished with a win of 19 : 15
This was when the final scores were coming in from away & calculations being made.
Jo’s rink had won 19:11 & Phyllis was victorious 16:14
Ali’s team carried on playing their 17th end to draw 17:17 before Eastbourne conceded the match
FINAL SCORE a WIN for Egerton Park 71 to 57
Well done ladies, what a result !
Good luck to our team in the next round Thursday January 8th 2026

Home advantage showed itself in the early rounds, with Denton taking on an early lead and by the end of 5 ends Denton were leading 25 – 23. Egerton slowly began to fight back and after the 10th end Egerton were leading 49 to 46. The rest of the afternoon the scores were reasonably level, with Denton finally coming out on top 79 – 72. Egerton however came away with 2.5 points by winning on two rinks and drawing on a third.
Rink 1 with Steve Hattersley, Jeff Coates, John Denton and Denis Parkinson lost out to some excellent lead bowling to the current Sussex Singles Champion, Alan Gillian. The final score being an honourable defeat of 15 – 11.
Rink 2 Steve Mead, Chris Browning, Chris Talbot and Ray Batsford were to be congratulated for taking an early lead and maintaining it for the duration, coming out winners 16 – 13.
Rink 4 Steve Friday, Clive Jeffery, Barry Jones and Richard Tedder had a ding dong battle all afternoon and shared the points at the end of the day 19 – 19.
Rink 5 Harold Nutting, Peter Copper, Phil Harrod and Trevor Monk had a tough afternoon against good all round bowling Denton, finally losing 23 – 12. Rink 6 Keith Jay, John Boon, Trevor Morgan and Kevin Felts took an early lead on end 4 and kept that lead in a closely fought match, eventually running out winners 14 – 9.

Next match is against Eastbourne (Away) on Sunday 30th November at 2pm

The most popular game of the season so far !
Selection for this game was a challenge as each place could have been filled twice.
Priority was given to those who have supported our away games as without the away legs we will not have visitors. We had 16 reserves today. Thank you all for signing up.
Captain Richard Tedder welcomed Captain Roger Provost & his team.
The game was close on all but Paul Hales rink at tea. His team had an early lead that was held & crucial for our successful final score.
The overall score was 40 all at 9 ends
There was some excellent Egerton play after refreshments & a solid victory was in sight.
Our top rink honours went to
Derek Mepham, Chris Trendle & Paul Hales with 21 shots to 5
The final score today in rinks was 4 to Egerton & 2 to Adur
Egerton had a home win today of 110 to 74 shots
We all enjoyed our match meal & drinks after the game. It was good to socialise as well as to play. We could smell the chicken roasting whilst playing & it was delicious !

The format of this knockout National competition is that one rink of ladies plays at home at the same time as another team of four plays on the opposing sides green. The result depends solely upon the combined scores of both rinks for each team after 18 ends with the winner being the side with the highest number of shots.
In the previous round the Egerton Park ladies had a close match against Eastbourne & District A team. They had won by one shot away after a dramatic replayed end. They were down on the last end at home & scored a tremendous 5 to take the match & to proceed to play Falaise today.
This competition was also all down to the last end at home !
Thank you to Peter Copper who was our home umpire. Thank you to Terry Hodd for promptly supplying away scores on the overall scoreboard so that our home ladies knew the tough goal.
Our away team, unchanged from the previous round, was
Rosamund Wood, Shirley Hudson, Ali Evans & Maggie Carpenter as skip
Our away team had a prompt 10am start after their trial ends. It took a while for those who had never played at Falaise before to get the line & length. Supporters at the home cheered as Terry put up the 5 ends score with Egerton ahead 5 to 4. This was at a crucial stage of a tough home game that had only just started as they could not start their trial ends until a roll up finished on their rink. Away held on at 10 ends with 9 to 8 up. It was mid-game that there were more lows than highs for both Egerton teams. The Falaise skip playing on her home green was excellent bowler Denise Hodd who was on great form rescuing her team from some strong Egerton heads. When the next score came through at home at 15 ends Egerton were behind 10 to 14
The home game was playing 5 ends behind & going through a challenging period. Away carried on fighting, all in good team spirit, at 18 ends losing 13 shots to 15. This was a great result away against such strong opposition well done. It is good to hear that you enjoyed your game !
This final result came through whilst the 14th end was being played at Egerton
the score at home was 17 to 23 8 shots needed to force a decider end & 9 for a win
Our home team was changed from the previous round
Ann Pole was in 25 °C sunshine in Lanzarote. Sheila moved up to skip & Jo came in as 3
Trish Webley, Chris Trendle, Jo Hearsum & Sheila Wright as skip
Our home team had a difficult start dropping 3 on the 1st end. The 2nd end was important.
Our front end bowled well holding 3 whilst opponent woods were either short in a wall or in the ditch to be joined by their skip Maxine on her first wood. Sheila drew in for our 4th after Maxine again missed the head. Egerton picked up 4 shots on both ends 2 & 3. This was a strong opposition & home advantage need to be driven home on the early ends. What a good start !
They had to dig deep mid-game ends 8, 9 & 10 when the “wheels came off” losing 5, 5 & 3 shots
Our ladies replied with a 5 on end 11 & the close game continued. On the 14th end 8 shots were required to force a decider end with the game finished away. Yes, they picked up 3 ! Our ladies kept on the battle picking up 2 shots on the last end for a narrow loss at home 24 to 25.
Egerton Park had a final shot tally of 37 & a loss to Falaise who had 40
Well done on such a close result

Sussex Ladies League away versus Denton Island
The last away game of the season !
Thank you to Captain of the day Phyllis Stevens & her team
Thank you to everyone who supported this game, most especially to our drivers
The ladies have had a tough draw for their return to the Sussex league with ALL of their matches so far being away games. They have battled well & now can look forward to all home games after our Christmas break. Let us hope all the teams make it safely to us when the weather is less inclement.
Denton Island is one of the most welcoming bowls clubs. There was a splendid display of a wonderful Christmas raffle. Maggie Carpenter revived a tradition. All of the ladies were encouraged to stand in front of the “magic” mirror in the changing room.
There followed a succession of laughter as we saw taller slimmer selves !
Denton Island made a strong start. After about 5 ends the only Egerton Park rink to have scored was skipped by Captain Phyllis on rink 2. Encouragingly they were well ahead. Captain Chris for Denton was looking worried with only 1 shot. On rinks 1 & 5 Egerton never really got into the game. On rinks 2,3 & 4 it was very close by 9 ends with scores of 9:7, 9:9 & 7:9 respectively.
The overall score at 9 ends (8 ends for rink 4 who had a dead end) was 27 to 59.
The battle was now on for rink points as the overall score was not looking hopeful
Could we share 6 points each as we had away at Hampden Park?
Well done to our winning rinks
Rink 3 won 18:13
Alison Collard, Mandy Cross, Lorna Hilton & skip Pauline Slater
Rink 4 won 17:11
Carolyn Bourner, Celia Morgan, Trish Webley & skip Margaret Blissett
4 points to Egerton
Rink 2
Isabelle Hart, Chris Trendle, Margaret Hodd & skip Phyllis Stevens
who had led well from the start then had a battle Royale after tea. At one point they were holding a 6 only to be disappointed by an excellent attacking shot from Christine Pages the Denton Captain. They went into the final end 15 all. It was looking good when Tink had 2 on the jack & was then joined by Chris. Denton three Debbie Sexton knew it was only about who had shot wood & it would be almost impossible to draw. Debbie sent her bicoloured missile straight for the head & wham Tink’s woods headed for the ditch leaving behind the jack. There were loud cheers from the supporters as well as applause from our Egerton ladies. This shot won the 2 rink points for Denton Island.
the overall score was 66 to Egerton Park & 97 to Denton Island
4 points to Egerton Park & 8 points to Denton Island
We look forward to welcoming Denton Island

Sussex Ladies League away versus Wealden
The Girls have a tough day !
Thank you to Captain of the day Phyllis Stevens & her team.
Thank you to everyone who supported this game.
There are those games where your wood skims past the jack missing it by millimetres & then on the next try it shoots off sideways to waiting opposition woods. One wood short the next long & so it continues. Where is that third wood that of course would have been perfect? The harder you try the less lucky you are. The relaxed opponent bowls elegantly then shows that there was a line in. Sadly rather too many of us will identify with this little paragraph today ! This should not take any praise away from an opposition who simply out-bowled most of us.
We cannot blame their “Wick Inn” as no alcoholic beverages were consumed until after the match. Perhaps that was our mistake? Thank you to our drivers who could not drown their sorrows. Commiserations to Sue Cooper’s team who had to bravely play on 40 minutes after the rest of us had finished as the opposition skip seemed at time to freeze on the mat.
There were positives & points gained. We fielded a team. We supported each other & had a few laughs. We will keep going !
Well done to our top rink (the only winning rink for our ladies)
Pattie Stephenson, Linda Ilsley, Shirley Hudson & Maggie Carpenter

Yetton Plate (Ladies National) versus Denton Island
The format of this knockout National competition is for two ladies rinks to play at home at the same time as two rinks play on the opposing sides green. The result depends solely upon the combined scores of all four rinks for each team with the winner being the side with the highest number of shots.
This competition was close on all rinks !
The key end of the match was on Captain Phyllis’ rink 4 mid-game. Egerton were holding 7 shots when the opposition skip on her last wood bowled heavy into her own teams short woods. The ensuing wick came in for shot. This was a turn around of 8 shots in favour of Denton ! Rink 4 had initially a good lead but on the 18th they were 9 : 18 down desperately needing to get back into the game. Lesley held shot when the opposing skip fired the jack out killing the end. The replayed end started too well for Denton with their lead now on the jack. Lorna with her first wood exposed the jack & with her second drew shot winning the end & the mat for Egerton. They did not allow the opposition another shot fighting back to just a 4 shot deficit. Would this be enough?
Our away teams were together 9 shots down at 15 ends
& by end 18 both our rinks were each 2 shots down so were catching up
At home on rink 5, when rink 4 finished, they were just finishing their 18th with a score of 19 :19
An updated away score was eagerly awaited. They were down when Maggie touched the jack.
It was close. The umpire was called & yes Egerton had shot ! Seven shots required to force an extra end & 8 to win with 3 ends to play & the score yet to come through from the away teams.
End 19 started well for Denton with their bright orange wood on the jack until Sue came in with a perfect shot. As the skips came to bowl the final away score came through. The away teams had pulled up to 39 Egerton & 40 Denton. The pressure was now on Maggie’s ladies to get 5 shots & they were holding at least one… until the Denton skip fired & down we went 2 shots. There was still hope & 2 ends to play. The final end was very tense. There was no option to kill an end for either skip as they had run out of match time. The master scoreboard was now wrong as afternoon players had reset rink 4 & had started to play. Our leading 2 both bowled just behind the jack, whilst Denton had drawn to the jack or were short. Was this an excellent team strategy for our back end players to take the jack back for the 5 needed ? This didn’t come off. Denton Island still held shot so why did their skip look so anxious holding her last bowl ? Oddly she went to look at the head when her supporters were calling out “just take it”. We then realised that she had looked up at the fictional overall score that now read 62:61 in our favour as we had imported an end from our social bowlers competing in our “Conquerors Cup” who had deleted our rink 4.
Denton were not behind they had won by 8 shots overall !
Well done to all of our ladies

This is a knockout competition for ladies club champions. Joanna Watt, the current Falaise ladies champion started bowling at 12 years of age & was one of Egerton’s most talented juniors.
In more recent years Jo has been ladies champion of Egerton Park 4 times. Tink was giving her an advantage of about 45 years in age & has quite a few years less bowling experience !
This was a tough draw for Tink & for Alison Watt who is Tink’s pairs partner & also Jo’s mother. Alison was unable to support either player as she was otherwise occupied being Egerton’s skip for an away rink in the Yetton Plate.
Jo put her woods onto the rink with impressive “English National Championships” stickers
It turned out that the bowls were previously owned by Martin Heitzman the current EIBA National 2 bowls singles champion ! Jo herself has played for England under 25 on outdoor greens.
Tink dropped a 3 on the first end but over the next 26 ends it was “nip & tuck” with only 1 or 2 shots for either player. Marker Doris jokingly grumbled she was using up too much chalk. Tink accidentally bowled a wood without wiping off the chalk only for it to take the jack from Jo saving a little chalk for Doris. When one had a nice looking toucher the other would tickle the jack off & take shot ! This was mostly a drawing game with both players carefully putting in back woods just in case the other was tempted to use weight. Doris commented that there were only 2 ends where any woods were more than a yard from the jack in spite of a great variety of mat positions & jack lengths.
After just over 2 hours play Jo was victorious gaining 1 shot on the 27th end
final score Isabelle “Tink” Hart 17 to Joanna Watt 21
Good luck to Jo with her next round playing Florence Eager of Denton Island

Sussex Ladies League away versus Falaise
The Girls earn maximum points !
Thank you to Captain of the day Phyllis Stevens & her team.
Thank you to everyone who supported this game.
Sadly not all the Egerton ladies who were selected were able to play. Just a few days before the game Falaise informed us that they could only find players for 4 rinks so one rink score of 2 points was conceded. This meant a last minute change to our teams.
Thank you for the understanding of our ladies who were disappointed. We wish our Falaise ladies well & hope that they are all back to good health soon. There were some very nasty coughs amongst those who played today.
The layout at Falaise adds an element of interest to the game. They have 3 rinks on each side of the building. Today we played 2 rinks each side. The overall score was helpfully displayed. However, there was some running to & fro to see how our friends were faring as part of the trips to the loo!
RINK 1 Isabelle Hart, Christine Stirling, Jo Hearsum, Sue Cooper 20 : 16
RINK 3 Lesley Beale, Jenny Edwards, Shirley Hudson, Phyllis Stevens 23 : 11
RINK 4 Joan Pullen, Alison Collard, Ali Evans, Alison Watt 19 : 17
RINK 6 Trish Webley, Celia Morgan, Sheila Wright, Ann Pole 24 : 7
At 9 ends a hot drink was served. It was most welcome on icily cold rink 1 !
Our rink 1 was the only rink losing. They dropped a 4 as the drinks were being served
They were revived & picked up a useful 7 on the next end & never then looked back.
The crucial end for rink 3 was the 15th when skip Phyllis had just one wood left & they were well down. Her wood steamed down the rink taking the jack back. Her opposition had no ammo left to reply & they took a 6 ! Rink 4, the 3 Alisons with Joan had a nip & tuck game throughout. Rink 6 were our golden girls winning against Maxine on her favourite rink. They were already up 9 : 3 on end 9. They were our top rink winning 24 : 7.
All 4 rinks to Egerton – 8 points & 2 points for the rink Falaise conceded without play
overall final score of 86 to Egerton & 51 to Falaise 2 points to Egerton
gaining them all 12 points. Well done ladies !
Good luck in the next game which is away at Wealden next Tuesday

Ann Hamilton Trophy
Ann Hamilton was both a well respected Egerton Park bowler as well as a member of staff.
Some of our members may recall Ann serving behind our bar. Others will have benefitted from her support of the youth section. The cup named in her honour was initially awarded to the younger members of the club. In recent years a weekend competition open to all playing members is named in her honour.
The format of this competition is that points are awarded not just for a win or a draw of a mini game of 6 ends but for each end won. This ingenious rule means that skip tactics need to be amended as 6 points of 8 for each game solely depend upon who has shot. It also can lead to some surprising results & an exciting last game finish.
This tournament there were 12 teams of triples who each played 8 games over the 2 days
Well done to Terry Hodd organising this smoothly & coping with last minute changes due to withdrawal due to illness. Thank you to Ray Batsford for coming in at the eleventh hour.
Thank you to Lily for all of her hard work. The rink marker letters were changed so swiftly between games we thought that the magician may have arrived early for our magical evening event !
Thank you to Kate, Emma & the catering team for excellent & efficiently served food. All tastes & appetites were catered for. The social part of this club event is as important as the results.
The final scores were very close
The top 3 teams all had won 29 ends & lost 19. The winners had won 6 games, 1 drawn & 1 lost
In the silver medal position 5 won, 1 draw & 2 lost & bronze 5 won & 3 lost
Congratulations to Bronze Lesley Duff, Sue Cooper & Ray Batsford
Congratulations to Silver Paul Brett, Isabelle “Tink” Hart & Maggie Carpenter
Congratulations to Golden winners Christine Stirling, Judith Brook & Kevin Felts

Mason Trophy (National) versus Eastbourne & District A
Prelim Round
The format of this knockout National competition is for one rink of ladies to play at home at the same time as another team of four plays on the opposing sides green. The result depends solely upon the combined scores of both rinks for each team after 18 ends with the winner being the side with the highest number of shots.
Selection in the past has been a delicate process as players all have to have reached the age of 60. It has been known for someone to have been selected only for them to have to point out that they were still too young to play! Our selectors were wise this year to invite players to sign up if they were both over 60 & free on the date of the first round.
We drew tough opponents & our neighbours fielded their decorated “all stars”.
This competition was close with some excellent heads
Thank you to Peter Copper who was our home umpire. Thank you to Doris Wickenden who match managed at home & Lily & Lara who on their days off went to support our girls & liaised from Eastbourne.
Our home team was Trish Webley, Chris Trendle, Sheila Wright & Ann Pole skip.
After the trial ends our ladies were focussed. Trish had her first wood just inches behind the jack & followed this up with a toucher. As the 5th end was being played the first score came through from the away team. There was a gasp as the overall score went onto the main board it appeared to be 127 shots to Egerton & 7 to Eastbourne. Opposition skip Mandy Carrie first looked shocked then followed this expression with peals of laughter. A Gremlin had visited the control room.
Our away team was up 4 shots to 3 at 5 ends. The scoreboard was swiftly corrected to show we led 11 to 7 overall. This match was well humoured as well as hotly contested: a great atmosphere.
Our away team were Rosamund Wood, Shirley Hudson, Ali Evans & Maggie Carpenter skip.
On the 14th end at home Egerton Park were holding 5 when Eastbourne’s number 3 drew shot. Our skip Ann Pole was quick to congratulate the excellent shot. This was just one example of not only skilful bowls but of good sportsmanship on both sides. The home score at 15 ends was 13 Egerton to 15 Eastbourne. Their team were gaining momentum. Whilst the away team had been 12 to 4 up at 10 ends this lead was being eroded. At 15 ends they were now 14 to 11. It was close overall with 27 to 25. Both home & away had an exciting finish !
Away it was 14 all with one end to go. Eastbourne were holding. Skip Maggie sent down her last bowl on target to take the jack out of the rink for a dead end. Re-spots are not used in this competition. The final end was replayed and our away rink won 15 to 14. This score came through just before play of the 18th end finished at Egerton Park. The finish at home was dramatic. Needing a 4 a 5 was picked up on the last end! Our home team won 19 to 17.
It was a very exciting game with two well matched teams at each venue: nip & tuck until the end. Egerton Park were warmly congratulated by Eastbourne & District.
Egerton Park had a final shot tally of 34 & a win over Eastbourne with 31
Good luck to our ladies in the next round to be played home & away on the morning of Friday 14th November against Falaise .
Please come & support our teams both at home & at Hastings

Egham Trophy (National) versus Denton Island
The format of this knockout National competition is for two rinks each of 2 ladies & 2 men to play at home at the same time as two rinks play on the opposing sides green. The result depends solely upon the combined scores of all four rinks for each team with the winner being the side with the highest number of shots.
This competition was close just an 8 shot difference over 21 ends (672 woods bowled)
Thank you to Peter Copper who was our home umpire for the second day running giving up his chance to bowl. Thank you to Terry Hodd who acted as match manager at home collecting & conveying the scores. Thank you to our opposition who phoned across the scores away.
Rink 2 at home Trish Webley, Tink Hart, Tim Jeffery & Kevin Felts started strongly & were 12:2 up on 5 ends but by end 18 the gap had narrowed to 18:16. On end 19 Denton went ahead with the score at 18:21. Egerton pulled back to 21 all on the penultimate end but then lost by one shot on the last !
Rink 3 at home Chris Browning, Ali Evans, Maggie Carpenter & Ray Batsford were troubled by a strong Denton Island four from the start. They fought back especially in the last few crucial ends for a final score of 15 : 23.
With a 9 shot loss at home it was a hard task for our away teams.
Very well done to Chris Trendle, Sue Cooper, Barry Jones & Denis Parkinson
They stormed ahead from the start & won their game 26 : 11.
Sadly Sharon Nicoll, Alison Watt, Chris Webley & Chris Talbot had a tough game losing 14 : 28.
This gave Egerton Park a final shot tally of 76 to 84 for Denton Island
We wish Denton Island good fortune going forward in the competition

Preliminary Round Denny Cup (National) versus Denton Island
The format of this knockout National competition is for two rinks of Men to play at home at the same time as two rinks play on the opposing sides green. The result depends solely upon the combined scores of all four rinks for each team with the winner being the side with the highest number of shots.
Thank you to Peter Copper, our home Umpire. Thank you to Kieran Jay, who acted as match manager away, phoning the scores across.
Travelling to Denton, our first rink of Chris Browning, Steve Mead, Barry Jones, skipped by Chris Talbot, were victorious with a final score of 22 – 12. Our second away rink consisting of Keith Jay, John Boon, Denis Parkinson and Kevin Felts also won on their rink with a score of 18 – 10.
Tighter games were fought at home, on Rink 4 we had John Denton, Chris Webley, Phil Harrod and Phil Wade, behind 7 – 19 on their 15th end, they did an amazing job to get the score to 20 – 19 at the start of the last end. Ultimately the score was a respectable 20 – 23. Over on Rink 5 Terry Adams, Tim Jeffery, Richard Tedder and Ray Batsford were behind 11 – 16 on the 13th end, but brilliantly got the score to 21 – 18.
Overall score was 81 – 63
A big well done to our men, a number of whom hadn’t played in a match of this nature before, they now face local side, Gullivers in the first round. The match will be played home and away at 10am on Saturday 1st November, supporters encouraged!

Preliminary Round Yetton Trophy (National) versus Falaise
The format of this knockout National competition is for two rinks of ladies to play at home at the same time as two rinks play on the opposing sides green. The result depends solely upon the combined scores of all four rinks for each team with the winner being the side with the highest number of shots.
This competition was nail bitingly close ! Thank you to Peter Copper who was our home umpire. Thank you to Lily Lawton who acted as match manager at home collecting & conveying the scores. Thank you to Doris Wickenden who went to Falaise to phone scores across. The overall score on the last few ends is crucial for the skips. If your home or away is down you don’t just think about who has shot. You may even sacrifice a lovely wood on the jack & fire on your own head in the hope of picking up more shots! Alternatively if you are winning overall you may not bowl your last wood if there is risk.
In spite of the competition this was a very good natured game with a few smiles. A neighbouring “roll up” rink sent over a few wrong biases. Our home supporters were anxious at the start. On home rink 2 Ann Pole’s ladies were down 1 to 9 on 7 ends. They showed courage & determination picking up a 4 on end 9, by end 19 of 21 it was 16 all. They went on to win 19 to 17 !
Well done to Anne Grant, Mandy Cross, Lorna Hilton and Ann Pole.
On home rink 3 there was an exciting close match with some excellent play from our Egerton four of Lesley Beale, Chris Trendle, Jo Hearsum & Sue Cooper. The opposing skip Alice Phillimore is well known to us & played her usual superb game saving her side on many an end. At 9 ends Egerton were 9 to 8 up. It was 17 all at 18 ends. The final score was 18 to Egerton to 20 Falaise. Well done so close!
Congratulations to our away rink of Sheila Smith, Sharon Nicoll, Ali Evans & Maggie Carpenter who won with a score of 22 to 17. Our other away rink bravely faced skip Denise Hodd who is back to indoor play after brilliant successes outdoors including skipping a victorious England team. Well done to Kay Parkin, Christine Friday, Jan McIntosh & Alison Watt.
Your score of 11 to 27 is good against an on form Hoddy !
We are very proud of our Egerton ladies. The score in rinks was a draw but the all important shot score of 70 to 81 was a win to Falaise. Good luck to the ladies of Falaise in the next round
& good luck to Egerton ladies who now go on to compete in the Yetton Plate.

Sussex Ladies League away versus Eastbourne & District
The Girls are Back in Town !
Thank you
to Phyllis Stevens supported by Jo Hearsum, Ali Evans & Doris Wickenden who have worked so hard to put our new team together.
to Lily Lawton who has encouraged us & provided support from the office.
to all who played, especially to the drivers
to our supporters who came to cheer us on
to all those who sign up to play in ladies league matches
Egerton Park has not fielded a team in the Sussex league since November 2022 when we struggled to recruit players & drivers for away games. Both Falaise & Egerton Park ladies withdrew from the league in this season.
We were pleased to be able to play in “club colours” grey trousers rather than “whites”. Eastbourne looked very smart in their “maroons” & gave us all a warm welcome.
We have a fresh new team. There was an especially good turn out of our “golfing ladies” with a keen eye for a good line & a good competitive team spirit. Many of our players had never played a match with “threes up”. They were undaunted playing with courage & enthusiasm.
Trish Webley is a popular skip. Even though this is not her favourite position Trish is a trooper & got on with leading her team of Joan Pullen, Sharon Nicoll & Ali Evans to a victory & gaining us 2 points.
Alison Watt had a dramatic finish. Her team were down by 2 shots on their last end when she successfully “killed it”. When 3 Christine Waghorne was asked which end they would like to replay from she answered the one which means we don’t have to carry our woods so far. Actually her choice was of course more carefully considered as she had worked out which side of the rink swung widest & favoured her team more ! With Sue Ford & Chris Trendle completing the four they won the last end & another 2 points for Egerton.
Congratulations to the top rink for our Ladies who were Linda Ilsley, Mandy Cross, Shirley Hudson & Phyllis Stevens with a 19 shots to 12 victory.
The overall score was 3 rinks to Egerton & 2 to Eastbourne
with 2 points per rink this gave us 6 points & 4 to Eastbourne
they won overall with a final score of 69 to Egerton & 99 to Eastbourne
gaining them 2 points to bring the points score to 6 all
Well done ladies !

Home Game versus Sidley Martlets
Captain Richard Tedder welcomed Captain Chris Webley & his team.
Of course many of the Martlets were very much at home on our green. We not only welcomed those who play for both clubs. Special praise should be given to their players who turn up for this good humoured match only playing “inside” once a year for this fixture!
When we paused for tea. Egerton were ahead 57 to 39 & were winning on 5 of 6 triples. The second half belonged to Sidley Martlets but it was not enough to bring them into the lead.
The final score today in rinks was 3 apiece with Martlets having 2 equal top rinks skipped by Captain Chris & by Mike Cross.
Our top rink honours went to Sharon Nicoll, Steve Hutchinson & John Elliott with an impressive 29 to 5 win.
Egerton had a home win today of 103 to 95 shots

Thank you to
Terry Hodd for organising our annual fun match, to Bithig Thaker for coming in as a last minute sub & to Paul Hales for starting us off. Sorry Paul that it was rather noisy when you were trying to remind us of the fire exits etc. There was plenty of catching up to be done with friends who hadn’t seen each other over the summer.
There was some confusion at the start. Although the ladies were playing at home & had the first jack their score went on the right. We then realised this is because Terry knows that they are always right !
Congratulations to the top rink for the Ladies
who were Mary Elliot, Lesley Beale & Ali Evans winning 17 to 11
Congratulations to the top rink for the Men
who were Ken Brook, Chris Webley & Mick Burton winning 24 to 7
the overall score was 67 for the men to 49 for the ladies
Well done men !

Captain Richard Tedder welcomed Captain Derrick & his team. There was a good atmosphere as many old friends greeted each other. The first match of the season is very much a “friendly” with so many players having recently returned indoors after the summer season. A few early woods were in the ditch!
When we paused for tea Egerton were ahead on 3 of 5 triples, on one the visitors were in the lead & the 5th was a draw. Some very keen measuring took place with even skips down to measure on one game to try to decide on an end that was eventually tied.
The overall score was 43 to 27 in our favour.
The second half was narrowly in Eastbourne’s favour as they adapted to our green with a score of 38 to 40. Some final scores were not close but the overall feel was that the game was an enjoyable close opener to the season.
Our top rink honours went to Captain of the day Richard Tedder with Babs Frostick & Barry Jones achieving a score of 24 to 4. In his speech, opposing Captain Derrick thanked whoever had put the sedative into his tea!
The final score today in rinks was 2 decisive wins & 3 losses.
Egerton had a home win today of 81 to 67 shots

It had been a struggle for Egerton Park to field a full team in spite of our volunteer drivers offering lifts. Thank you once again to those who kindly drove & to those who support the away games.
With 2 players pulling out at short notice we were very grateful to Peter Copper stepping in at the last minute. We were also grateful to David Head of Mote Park for playing for us.
The sun was shining and there was an “end of term feeling”. We had a great welcome from Captain Wendy Borer. We tucked into the excellent “snacks” & shopped for jigsaws. That hot dog was enormous Denis. I hope that wife Sue does not read the match reports !
Mote Park has a splendid 8 rink surface, so with 6 triples today no one could grumble about the ditch – well one to the side that is. When we stopped for tea Egerton Park was losing on 4 rinks & lagged behind overall by 38 to 52 shots.
Were we guilty of overindulgence in retro biscuits? The selection included fig rolls & “squashed flies” aka Garibaldis. Whilst our 2 winning rinks continued to make progress after the break sadly the others were well beaten. Well done to our top rink of Iain McCormack, Steve Mead & Paul Hales for a 22 to 11 win.
The home game against Mote Park in August had been close with an overall win for Mote Park of 2 shots. Today was not be that close ! The final score was a loss of 79 to Mote Park’s 122.
Captain Chris Browning thanked everyone, not forgetting the 2 ladies catering & then thanked the bar staff to amused applause as they were the same ladies who multitask. He wished everyone a good winter season & said that he was off to Barbados !
Both Captains wished us a safe journey. Road accidents reported in the vicinity of the A21 & closer to home in Bexhill. The drivers then had to face multiple road closures especially in Bexhill itself.
I hope that everyone is home safely.
In spite of the score this was a most enjoyable last game of the summer season.

The air conditioning at Adur was almost too cool for those acclimatised to Egerton Parks’ summer heat.
With minutes to go before the match was due to start Captain Chris Browning appeared having been delayed by a road closure. He had the match cards & list but due to a office autosave malfunction there was a small delay and reorganisation was required. The cards were quickly handed out so the match could go ahead near to time. On with the friendly match.
The home game against Adur in July had been during the heatwave. It finished with Egerton Park winning on 4 of 6 triples & by 106 to 85 shots. We could afford to “drop” 20 shots overall.
When we stopped for tea at 10 ends Egerton Park lagged behind by 41 to 59 shots. We were winning on 2 rinks & a draw on a third. This looked hopeful. Did we eat too many biscuits?
The final score was a loss on 5 of 6 triples & our top rink achieved a draw. Well done to Chris Browning, Doris Wickenden & John Elliott.
Captain Chris was able to award himself a pen that was swiftly passed on to his Oppo.
He apologised to Adur Captain Roger for the delay at the start of the game. He also commended Kay Rawlings for stepping in to play at the last minute & for playing so well on her debut on a “foreign” green.
The final score was a loss of 73 to Adur’s 116.

Home Game versus Eastbourne & District
The weather for the match today was very different to the hot dry sunshine of just a few weeks ago when we visited Eastbourne. However the heavy rain had passed through before most of the arrivals. The away game final score on August 12th was a loss for Egerton on 4 of 6 rinks & an overall loss of 72 to 118 shots. We needed a good win today to make up the 46 shot deficit !
Captain Richard Tedder welcomed Captain Dave & his team.
It was very close when we paused for tea. Egerton were ahead on 4 of 6 rinks. The overall score was 42 to 38 in our favour. Our visitors were playing well on our green with the exception of rink one where John Elliott’s team already had a strong lead. Would they overtake us after the break?
After having a narrow 2 shot lead at tea Joan Robertson, Roger Sinclair & Denis Parkinson stormed forward for a 29 to 9 shot win. They were to be denied the top rink honours by our early leaders Chris Browning, Doris Wickenden & John Elliott with a 24 to 3 final score.
The final score today in rinks was an even 3 all.
Egerton had a home win today of 99 to 73 shots
The overall score over both away & home matches was close with Egerton losing by 20 shots. There is always next year !

Away Game versus Wealden IBC
Thank you again to our drivers & to those who played. The club is still struggling to fill away fixtures. Please do support your club. There will no home games for you to enjoy without us travelling.
We as always received an excellent welcome today. The games are enjoyable. These outings are not just good bowls they are social events where you not only meet other bowlers but get to know each other better. Several of our drivers kindly stop at a pub on the way home for a meal & banter.
We had a strong start to our summer season in May with a win against Wealden of 132 to 79. They had a score to settle with us. This was all in good humour in keeping with the spirit of a club who names their bar The Wick Inn. Should we run a competition to name our bar ?
The overall half-time score was 40 to Wealden & a strong 53 to Egerton Park. Just before tea Marie Burton, Tim Jeffery & Mick Burton picked up an 8. This was followed shortly after tea by a 6. They finished with a win of 27 to 9. They were on rink 6 but coming up fast on outside lane 1 was Chairman Parkinson et al. !
Paul Hales our captain of the day congratulated John Robertson, Doris Wickenden & Denis Parkinson who were top rink with a win of 25 to 5.
The final score was a win on 4 of 6 triples & a score of
118 to 71

Today’s match with Mote Park was a close run event, with Mote Park running out winners 76 to 78, after an exciting afternoon of bowls.
Rink 1, Steve Hattersley, Joan Robertson, and Ron Ambler fought a close match all afternoon losing by just one shot 12-13.
Rink 2, Norman Scott, the effervescent Ray Batsford and Paul Hales, had a tough game against strong opponents, losing 10-20.
Rink 3, Christine Sheppard, Bob Budd and Richard the ‘Teddy Boy’ Tedder were up against a very good left-hand skip, who denied them many holding shots during the afternoon, finally losing out 11 – 21.
Rink 4, John Robertson, Chris Browning and Tim Jeffrey were the star performers of the afternoon, with a resounding victory 24-8.
Rink 5, Harold Nutting, Ludmilla Scott and Kevin Felts, were leading 16-9 on the 14th end, only to give away a six on the 15th making it a close run finish but were relieved to run out overall winners 19-16.
Final score 76 – 78
A very enjoyable afternoon for the players and the audience, Hard Luck Egerton.

We had lovely hot sunny weather for the short drive to Eastbourne. It was very pleasant to walk in to the perfect climate control inside the club. We were greeted by many familiar faces whilst we all lined up to individually pay our match fee & to purchase cold drinks. The two bar volunteers were under pressure with about 40 of us arriving almost at the same time ! They kept on smiling & greeting whilst juggling ticking us off respective team sheets as well as serving drinks. They also had to cope with a variable signal on the 2 card machines. We all enthusiastically applauded them at the end of the match.
Captain Julie Woods welcomed our Captain of the day Denis Parkinson & our team. Although Denis later commented that he thought that the green is similar to Egerton’s, many muttered disagreement. It appeared that we “got it” on rinks 1, 2 & 3, but struggled on 4,5 & 6. At tea Captain Denis, supported by Chris Shephard & Paul Hales were flying the flag for Egerton ahead 11 to 4. The overall half-time score was 33 to 58. We had a 25 shot deficit to chase after refreshment.
Sadly they were too strong for us today. The last rink to finish was the Captains watched by those already enjoying our drinks. They gave it their best shot but it was a loss by just one shot. Egerton did have two victorious rinks including our Richard “the reliable” Tedder with Jan McIntosh & James Stevenson who were top rink with 16 shots to 9.
The final score was a loss of 72 to 118

Home game versus Denton Island IBC
Tedder is back on form !
Denis Parkinson our Captain of the day welcomed Captain Peter & our friends from Denton Island. It was a humid & damp day with the sound of thunder echoing on the green. Egerton started with optimism after a narrow win at the away match 2 months ago.
At tea Egerton had a total of 59 to Denton’s 26 shots. However many a game was much closer than this score implied. The second half score reflected how well matched our teams were with both Egerton & Denton adding 54 shots to their overall score. Egerton had capitalised on their home green advantage pre-tea so won 113 to 80.
Our top rink lead was Marie Burton who was also lead on the top rink yesterday at Ashford. This triple was completed by Ron Ambler & skip Richard Tedder who enjoyed a 25 to 11 win.
Egerton won on all 6 rinks. The final rink scores were close with the result on most dependant on an exciting final end.
