Ashford (Away) Match Report

31 July 2024
On a hot sunny day it was good to be welcomed by a blast of air conditioning at Ashford. It was also good that Ashford, like ourselves, have managed to keep caterers. Many a delicious panini was enjoyed pre-match. Perhaps we can blame this indulgence on our overall final score ? ?
We found their green challenging especially on end rinks where an optical illusion meant that the ditch seemed so close unlike the tea time score of 25:72. It was tough to go into the 2nd half of the match 47 down ! We held our own, but barely dented the deficit, scoring 43 to Ashford’s 40 after tea giving us an overall score of 68:112. We lost on 4 rinks, drew on one ..
The remaining rink of Steve Hattersley playing in his debut away match, Jan McIntosh & Roger Sinclair were eagerly supported by those who had already finished. They went into their final end 12 all. Up went the Egerton cheer as Jan’s wood came in for shot. Then came their skip whose wood was for seconds declared by his team “shot” for it to teeter & roll out. It was close but they were our victorious top rink by one shot —Well done !
